“Romina” Székely-inspired corset in black velvet and stripes
Description

The inspiration for the Romina corset came swooping in like the wind along the mountain slopes and soft meadows of the Csík region, with its beautiful traditional women’s waistcoats. 

The intense contrast between the richly woven striped fabric and deep black velvet is no accident: in a traditional Székely mellény, dark velvet acts as the visual framework, placed in a delicate outline along the neckline and armholes, defining the waist and holding the colorful woven panels within a structured silhouette.

As it does in our “Romina” corset here: black velvet inserts carefully emphasise the construction lines and bring depth to the blue and green striped textile. Decorative trims further highlight each panel. No effort was spared in the making of this corset, as the motifs are not printed. They are in fact woven. As always, in a custom made design by Vivien.

The front of the corset is fully functional and closes with real buttons, while adjustable lacing on both sides allows you to adapt the corset to your body, revealing as much or as little of what’s worn beneath as you wish.

A little styling hack: for a fully closed silhouette with no visible gap at the sides, simply remove the lacing and sew the two edges together. This makes for a permanently fitted corset.

Rather than being a reproduction of one particular historical garment, the “Romina” was designed from scratch, drawing inspiration from the original in the way the contrasting materials play each other up within a clearly defined bodice, and as such becoming a contemporary piece all on its own.

Jessica is 1.66 m (5'5") tall, with an 85 cm (33.5") bust, 61 cm (24") waist, and 89 cm (35") hips. She wears a size S.

This piece is made in India, where we've worked with the same workshop for almost 10 years. India is the birthplace of cotton and home to over 500 embroidery techniques, some of the world's oldest. We chose to produce here not for cost, but for unmatched expertise in handwork and natural materials.

Our workshop has deep knowledge of traditional embroidery and garment construction. Together, we explore both European folk patterns and Indian craft techniques, mixing traditions to create something new. It's a collaboration we're proud of.

All production meets rigorous standards: BSCI for social ethics, OEKO-TEX® for textile safety, and full transparency throughout the supply chain.
