Natural Fibers

Why Natural Fibers Are at the Heart of Voriagh

What touches your skin matters. Not just aesthetically, but at its core. Natural fibers breathe with you, they regulate temperature, absorb moisture, move as you move. They're alive in a way synthetics can never be. Linen remembers the field it grew in. Wool carries the memory of the animal that wore it first. Cotton softens with each wash, becoming more itself over time.

This isn't romanticism. It's biology. Your skin is your largest organ, and what rests against it all day, every day, affects how you feel in your body. Natural fibers don't trap heat or moisture the way plastic-based materials do. They don't build up static. They don't hold odor. They let your skin breathe, regulate and exist comfortably in the world.

And when a garment's life eventually ends, natural fibers return to the earth. They break down, decompose, complete the cycle. Synthetic fibers don't. They become microplastics that persist for centuries, contaminating water, soil and the food chain. Choosing natural fibers isn't just about comfort - it's about refusing to leave that particular kind of damage behind.

The Materials We Work With

We work primarily with linen, wool, and cotton - fibers with deep histories and proven longevity.

Linen grows in fields across Europe, particularly in France and the Baltics. It requires little water, no pesticides and every part of the flax plant can be used. The fiber is strong, naturally antimicrobial, and becomes softer and more beautiful with age. We source linen from Lithuania, where it's been cultivated and woven for centuries.

Wool comes from sheep raised under the Responsible Wool Standard (RWS), which certifies humane treatment of animals and responsible land management. RWS ensures full traceability from farm to garment - you can trust where it comes from and how it was produced. Wool regulates temperature brilliantly, wicks moisture, resists wrinkles and lasts for decades when cared for properly.

Cotton is sourced as organic wherever possible, grown without synthetic pesticides or fertilizers. India, the birthplace of cotton cultivation, remains our primary source - connecting us to thousands of years of textile knowledge while supporting contemporary organic farming practices.

Safety and Certification

Fibers are tested to meet OEKO-TEX® Standard 100, which guarantees the absence of harmful substances. This is about your health, first and foremost. OEKO-TEX® tests for over 100 regulated and unregulated chemicals: heavy metals, pesticides, formaldehyde, harmful dyes, anything that could irritate skin or pose long-term health risks.

When a fabric is OEKO-TEX® certified, it means every component, the fiber itself, the thread, the dyes, the finishes, has been independently tested and verified safe. This testing is rigorous, ongoing and non-negotiable for us. We won't put something against your skin that hasn't been proven harmless.

For wool specifically, RWS certification ensures not just animal welfare and land stewardship, but also that the fiber is traceable and produced without harmful chemicals throughout the supply chain.

Material as Truth

Voriagh's magic is nothing abstract. It resides in the weight of fabric between fingers, in the hand of a natural fiber that breathes, in the hold of a cut designed to traverse years without weakening. Materials are chosen for their nobility, but also for this capacity they must age without degrading, to patina like antique furniture, to bear the trace of seasons crossed.

This attention to material joins a philosophy of time regained. Produce less, produce better, create pieces we keep, we repair, we perhaps pass down. A wardrobe full of pieces that are worn and loved, not quickly forgotten and cast aside.

Natural fibers. Tested for safety. Built to last. This is how we make clothing.
