The folk blouses at Voriagh are built around two distinct embroidery traditions that meet in this collection. The Vyshyvanka Podillia blouse carries Ukrainian geometric embroidery - the counted-stitch patterns specific to the Podillia region, worked in black thread on undyed cotton in a silhouette of bishop sleeves and a tie neckline. Alongside it, the István and Timea blouses draw from Hungarian Matyó embroidery: a tradition of dense floral motifs in blue, ochre and ivory, typically centred on the sleeve and chest. Both draw from documented folk traditions, now translated into everyday wearable pieces.

Natural Cotton & Linen: Fibres Behind the Embroidery

Every blouse and shirt in this collection is cut from natural fibres. The Vyshyvanka and Matyó blouses use undyed or lightly finished cotton, chosen because it takes hand embroidery without distorting the weave under tension. The Kalia tunic works the same cotton in a smocked neckline with embroidered surface detail. The Alanis blouse is cut from a white cotton eyelet - a fabric where the openwork pattern is woven into the cloth rather than applied.i. The Mara blouse offers the simplest silhouette: undyed cotton or a fine beige print, nothing extraneous, structured only by cut and proportion. There are no synthetic fibres in this collection.

The range moves from the ceremonial weight of the Vyshyvanka Podillia to the softer register of the Mara cotton blouse. Between them: the István and Timea in white and black with Matyó florals, the Kalia tunic in cream and purple with a smocked and embroidered front panel, and the Alanis eyelet blouse in white. All pieces are available in sizes XS to XXL. The embroidered styles are produced in limited quantities per colourway - the hand-stitched pieces in particular are constrained by the time the work requires.

How to Wear Folk Blouses & Shirts

Folk blouses work as standalone pieces or as the foundation of a more layered silhouette. Limited Production: Embroidery Sets the Pace

The Vyshyvanka Podillia and the Matyó blouses are among the most time-intensive pieces Voriagh produces. Each piece is embroidered by hand, therefore there can only be so many in a given season. Once a colourway is gone it is not restocked in the same form. The Kalia, Alanis and Mara blouses are also produced in limited seasonal runs.
