“Modra” pure wool black and burgundy mittens
Description

No part of folk wear has ever gone without decoration, so much so that even the common mitten found itself steeped in meaning, knitted with patterns that brought it closer to a story than to an accessory.

Inspired by patterns of Latvian origin, the mittens are made of 100% wool. The extraordinarily intricate geometric patterns often carry symbols and meaning that can still be decoded even after all this time, related to nature, fertility, the sun and figures from Latvia’s ancient mythology.

Mittens also held an important place in rites of passage, particularly weddings, where young women traditionally created many different pairs themselves as part of their dowry or to give as gifts.

We recommend avoiding machine washing unless your washing machine has a dedicated wool cycle with no spin.

Wool is naturally self-cleaning and odour-resistant thanks to the properties of lanolin, so frequent washing is unnecessary. To freshen your garment, simply hang it outside in cold, dry weather. For a deeper refresh, leave it in the snow for a few hours or place it in the freezer overnight.

Store carefully and protect from moths.

This piece is made in Mauritius, where we work with a highly certified workshop specializing in knitwear. Mauritius has a long-standing friendship with France and an amazing knitting tradition that remains relatively unknown beyond the industry.

We chose to produce here for the exceptional expertise in knitwear construction and the workshop's commitment to quality and ethical standards. The technical knowledge and precision in knit production are outstanding.
