Description

Traditionally fashioned as a barrier from the cold, knits of all shapes and sizes have long been staples in the folk wardrobe, worn and kept close through harsh winter generation after generation, often mended and worn again when the thread inevitably gave way.

And so, winter simply cannot find you without at least a couple of pieces of knits in your possession. May we propose something as simple yet complex as the “Modra” knit? Fashioned like a poncho, but with one button to keep it closed on each side, it is meant to be worn over a blouse or long, cozy dress.

Made of 100% wool, the knit features motifs inspired by patterns of Latvian origin. The extraordinarily intricate geometric patterns often carry symbols and meaning that can still be decoded even after all this time, related to nature, fertility, the sun and figures from Latvia’s ancient mythology. 

PS: Unlike modern creations, this one keeps to the old ways through and through: 100% wool and buttons that are made of wood.

Jessica is 1.66 m (5'5") tall, with an 85 cm (33.5") bust, 61 cm (24") waist, and 89 cm (35") hips. She wears a size S/M.

We recommend avoiding machine washing unless your washing machine has a dedicated wool cycle with no spin.

Wool is naturally self-cleaning and odour-resistant thanks to the properties of lanolin, so frequent washing is unnecessary. To freshen your garment, simply hang it outside in cold, dry weather. For a deeper refresh, leave it in the snow for a few hours or place it in the freezer overnight.

Store carefully and protect from moths.

This piece is made in Mauritius, where we work with a highly certified workshop specializing in knitwear. Mauritius has a long-standing friendship with France and an amazing knitting tradition that remains relatively unknown beyond the industry.
