“Ioana” blouse with carașova-inspired embroidery
Description

The original “Carașoveni” blouse that inspired this piece is so extraordinarily intricate that we could never hope, nor wish, to reproduce it. Its cross-stitch is the tiniest we have ever seen, so incredibly fine and precise that it almost feels beyond what’s possible, while its bold choice of colors reads strikingly modern still. What fascinated us most were these countless tiny details, ones you can discover for yourself in the photograph of the original blouse at the end.

We found a handful of motifs particularly inspiring. (It would take several blouses to showcase them all!) The silhouette of our blouse is entirely our own, across which our favorite motifs blossom, in a kind of summary of the original: pairs of birds, grapes and geometric flowers, all gathered anew into a fresh composition.

The original blouse is sometimes described as ceremonial, possibly tied to wedding attire. Some of its motifs carry symbolic weight and could support this idea: houses, pairs of birds facing one another and halved fruits such as pears and apples, referencing notions of home, togetherness, fertility and the womb. Their exact meanings are not exactly certain. However, we prefer keeping to that mystery, rather than giving these beautiful old symbols a story they may never have had.

Jessica is 1.66 m (5'5") tall, with an 85 cm (33.5") bust, 61 cm (24") waist, and 89 cm (35") hips. She wears a size S/M.

Machine wash at 30°C. We recommend machine washing rather than hand washing, as modern washing machines can provide a gentler and more consistent wash. Use a medium spin cycle of up to 1000 rpm.

This piece is made in India, where we've worked with the same workshop for almost 10 years. India is the birthplace of cotton and home to over 500 embroidery techniques, some of the world's oldest. We chose to produce here not for cost, but for unmatched expertise in handwork and natural materials.

Our workshop has deep knowledge of traditional embroidery and garment construction. Together, we explore both European folk patterns and Indian craft techniques, mixing traditions to create something new. It's a collaboration we're proud of.

All production meets rigorous standards: BSCI for social ethics, OEKO-TEX® for textile safety, and full transparency throughout the supply chain.
