"Timea" blouse with embroidered Matyó flowers white

By the early 20th century, Mezőkövesd had become something of a cultural destination. The Matyó region had gained international attention through a series of world exhibitions, and visitors began making their way to the town. The women of Mezőkövesd responded with characteristic resourcefulness: they produced embroidered pieces specifically for this outside audience, blouses above all, and sold them from dedicated shops and market stalls. That world has since disappeared. And yet this blouse is a direct heir to that tradition.

Made of cotton, it is built around a central floral composition, generous, branching, full of movement. The embroidery is rendered in modern, more muted tones, a reinterpretation rather than a reproduction. Hand smocking runs along three edges: the neckline, the sleeve ends and the hem, where a small ruffle finishes the silhouette. A concealed zip makes it easy to wear. At the neckline, two twisted cords and tassels, made using the embroidery threads themselves, tie the whole piece together with an understated, considered detail.

Light, generous and unstructured, Timea is made for warm days. Wear it with a skirt, a pinafore dress, or wide trousers.
