Description

The Timea stole draws from the traditional Matyó palette, reds, blues, greens and touches of yellow, reinterpreted in softer, more wearable tones on a black ground that anchors the composition. It weaves together the emblematic motifs of Matyó embroidery: roses and tulips, each carrying a long symbolic history in Hungarian folk ornamentation.

The arrangement of these motifs is itself a form of authorship. In Matyó tradition, compositions were designed by the író asszonyok, literally, the women who write, who drew and assembled the various motifs into a harmonious whole, each bringing her own rhythm and sensibility to the work. For everyday wear, the composition would be restrained; for festive occasions, the more motifs, the richer the piece.

The generous fringe carries its own history: fringed edges have long finished the finest Matyó ceremonial textiles, a detail that belongs as much to tradition as to adornment. The blue variant in particular sits close to the body with ease.

This piece is made in India, where we've worked with the same workshop for almost 10 years. India is the birthplace of cotton and home to over 500 embroidery techniques, some of the world's oldest. We chose to produce here not for cost, but for unmatched expertise in handwork and natural materials.

Our workshop has deep knowledge of traditional embroidery and garment construction. Together, we explore both European folk patterns and Indian craft techniques, mixing traditions to create something new. It's a collaboration we're proud of.

All production meets rigorous standards: BSCI for social ethics, OEKO-TEX® for textile safety, and full transparency throughout the supply chain.
