“István” embroidered Matyó inspired blouse

The István blouse draws direct inspiration from the traditional “Matyó lobogós ing,” the fluttering shirt, named for its generous, billowing sleeves that move with every gesture, covered in embroidery.

Made of undyed ecru cotton, it is built around a front yoke structured by flat pleats and an embroidered collar. The cut is a contemporary interpretation of a 19th-century men’s costume: unhurried, generous, full of air.

Created in satin stitch using a palette of navy, slate blue and saffron yellow, the embroidery weaves together three motifs rooted in Hungarian folk tradition.

The Matyó rose, almost graphic in its form, is the emblematic flower of the Mezőkövesd region and the heart of this entire collection.

Two-tone buttons echo the colors of the embroidery, a small detail inspired by a Matyó blouse held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
