'Svyra' Lituanian bird pendant with chain sterling silver
Description
Shaped like a small sparrow, the Svyra necklace carries the gentle strength of Baltic tradition. In Lithuanian folk art (sodžiaus menas), birds were not mere creatures of the sky but messengers of the divine, protectors of the home, and guardians of the soul.

Their presence symbolized freedom, renewal, and a bridge between earth and heaven. At the heart of this bird rests an ancient rosette — the Saulutė, or “little sun.”

This timeless motif, carved for centuries into wood, household treasures, and ritual objects, embodies the sun’s warmth, fertility, and the eternal cycle of life. Known also as the Gyvybės ratas (wheel of life), it speaks of protection (Apsauga), rebirth, and harmony with the cosmic order ruled by the sun goddess Saulė.
